What is the registration fee for String Fling?

Individual and School Registration

Students may register for String Fling through their school orchestra teacher or individually by a parent or guardian. Once you click on the REGISTRATION button, follow the prompts for the option that works best for you.

Where is String Fling?

All String Fling activities are held in the Kansas State University Student Union located at 918 N. MLK Dr., Manhattan, KS.

What orchestra am I in?

Your orchestra placement depends on your grade and city. More information on the way…

What should I bring?

Please bring the following: your instrument, a well-labeled folding music stand, a rock stop (cello/bass), a pencil, and money for meals, snacks, & K-State Orchestra merch!

What happens if I break a string at rehearsal?

K-State student helpers will assist in making minor repairs throughout the weekend. You will need to reimburse the K-State String Division for any materials, such as strings, you might need.

Can I leave my cello or bass at the Union over the lunch hour?

We have requested that all rehearsal rooms be locked when we’re not in rehearsal—be aware, however, that leaving your instrument on campus is done so at your own risk.

Cancellations & Refunds

String Fling is never cancelled and all registration fees are non-refundable. Since String Fling registrations fund future scholarships for K-State student musicians, we appreciate your understanding of these policies.

Do I need to prepare the music in advance?

No. All music will be provided once you arrive. If you would like to get a head-start, however, you can find all music selections listed within each orchestra’s page.

How much experience do I need to have?

If you are enrolled in your school orchestra program, you are ready for String Fling! For a listing of specific ability and technique levels for each ensemble, visit the “Orchestras” pages.
