Dear K-State Symphony Orchestra Alums and Friends,

Greetings from Kansas State University! Our school year is well underway, and the K-State Symphony Orchestra is thriving! Enrollment in our program is growing and students are mastering works by Beethoven, Brahms, Bernstein, and many more!

For 50 years, the K-State String Division has sponsored hundreds of student string players (maybe even you!) through the String Fling Scholarship Fund. String Fling is an annual festival that brings hundreds of middle-school orchestra students to our campus for a weekend filled with music, fun, and community. The student registration fees from the event provide a 100% profit revenue source for future scholarship dollars. Due to the continuation of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have lost financial momentum with this fund and are now in need of support for the success of future string study at K-State.

We currently support over 20 string students each year with scholarships ranging from $200-500 per semester through the String Fling Scholarship Fund. Most recipients are not music majors as we hope to encourage our future engineers, doctors, veterinarians, teachers, computer programmers, and architects to continue playing in college and beyond. We believe music can and should be a life-long avocation!

Please consider making a donation to this incredible program. Each contribution brings us closer to continuing the legacy of support we’ve been able to offer K-State musicians over the past 50 years. You may contribute by clicking on the link below. The K-State Symphony Excellence Fund through the K-State Foundation supports all projects related to the growth of the KSUSO, including future String Fling Scholarship recipients.

Thank you for your generous consideration of this request. We hope to see you at our concerts throughout the season and you can follow us on Facebook and Instagram by “liking” @kstateorchestra. Until then, take care and Go Cats!

With Warmest Wishes,

Rachel Dirks, Ph.D.
